What is a “help meet”?
Is this about a competition for helpers? After all isn’t a meet a competition? No, not exactly, but being a help meet does involve training. Well, then, is it minds coming together to discuss help? Not precisely, but being an equipped and blessed help meet does involve the coming together of two minds, yours and God’s.
According to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, the Hebrew definition of the words “help” and “meet” are the same, help. If you plug that into the verse you see a double statement of help.
Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary gives the definition of the word help as; “to give assistance or support to.” The same dictionary gives the definition of the word meet as; “precisely adapted to a particular situation, need, or circumstance.”
So, a help meet is one who is to give assistance or support and is precisely adapted (made to fit) to a particular situation, need or circumstance. A help meet is precisely made to give assistance and support to the man God has made her for. A help meet is an aid, a backer, an advocate and a champion of her husband.
